Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.
The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. The most common schedule is 11 am–2 pm. It is closed on Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Blue Magpie at (626) 317-5171; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, bmagpie.com.

Disappointing DineLA Experience. We came in for the DineLA menu with high expectations given the branding and interior, but the execution fell far short of a fine dining experience. The restaurant was noticeably understaffed and the staff seemed undertrained. We waited a long time just to place our order, and the first course didn't arrive until 20 minutes later. One person in our group ordered à la carte instead of the DineLA menu, and none of his dishes came out within 30 minutes of ordering — we later learned one item was sold out, but no one told us until we asked. When he didn't finish his dish, staff offered to box it up. Twenty minutes later, it still hadn't come back, and when we asked, we were told it had been thrown away. Management did apply an extra discount to our bill as an apology, which we appreciated, but it didn't make up for the overall experience. As someone who's Taiwanese, I was especially looking forward to tasting something nostalgic here, but none of the dishes felt Taiwanese in the slightest. The flavors leaned either too salty or too oily, with no trace of the balance or subtlety that defines the cuisine. To add to it, one staff member had noticeably

Upscale Taiwanese fusion done right🇹🇼 From Shaoxing Wine-Poached Shrimp and Tea-Smoked Duck wrapped in crispy tofu skin to Sour & Spicy Parchment Baked Branzino and a comforting bowl of Braised Beef Wide Noodle Soup, every dish brought a modern twist to flavors we know and love. Favorites? The melt-in-your-mouth Seared Scallop & Chimichurri, Lettuce-Wrapped Salt Pork, and desserts that absolutely stole the show — Taiwanese Caramel Flan and Truffle Earl Grey Basque Cheesecake🍮🧀 Paired it all with the Rum Lemon Tea, Moonlight Bloom, and Winter Melon Highball for the perfect night out🍸 If you’re looking for a spot that elevates Taiwanese cuisine while staying true to its roots, Blue Magpie deserves a spot on your list✨

We stopped by to check out their new menu after shopping at the Santa Anita mall, which is just down the street. The Crispy Skin Roasted Duck Breast was juicy and tender. It was different than what I expected, but in a good way! Another highlight was the braised beef wide noodle soup. The pot was huge and could fill 6-7 small bowls. Definitely worth ordering if you're with a large party. The absolute star of the night was the Truffle Earl Grey Basque Cheesecake. The earthy truffle flavor paired well with the fragrant Earl Grey notes. So unique! Beyond the food, the service was excellent throughout the meal. The staff was attentive and always came to refill my water. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu.

Blue Magpie in Arcadia was honestly such a fun date night spot!!! The whole restaurant feels super pretty and upscale, but still comfortable and not too fancy or intimidating. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share and everything was soooo good!! You can really tell they put a modern twist on Taiwanese flavors. The Lady Camellia cocktail and Wintermelon Highball were both really refreshing and smooth 🍸 Dangerously easy to drink honestly LOL. The Mala Gizzard had a nice spicy kick, and the Scallop Chimichurri was super fresh and buttery. One of my favorite dishes was definitely the Beer Spicy Clam Stir Fry ~So flavorful and perfect with drinks. The Sour Spicy Branzino was AMAZING. The fish was super fresh, soft and tender inside. The sauce had the perfect sour and spicy balance without being too heavy. We also loved the Pan Seared NY Strip and the Roasted Duck Breast. Everything felt really well thought out and beautifully plated. And don’t skip dessert!! The Mango Panna Cotta was smooth and creamy, and the Truffles Basque Cheesecake was unique and delicious. Another big plus is they have free parking in the back, which is super convenient for Arcadia! They also have two priva

Stopped by Blue Magpie in Arcadia for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. It has that refined, modern vibe, but the atmosphere still feels relaxed and welcoming. Their $20 lunch set is honestly such a steal for the quality you’re getting. The braised pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender with just the right balance of savory and slightly sweet. Portions were generous, and the sides didn’t feel like an afterthought. The truffle preserved radish omelet had a subtle earthy aroma without being overpowering, and the drunken shrimp were fresh, plump, and well seasoned. Highly recommend adding the milk tea creamy, smooth, and not overly sweet. They also offer weekday happy hour with 50% off select appetizers, which makes it even more worth visiting. Plus, they have private rooms, making it a great option for anything from a casual weekday lunch to a small group gathering. Would definitely come back to try more dishes!

<<Excellent service but food fell flat and underwhelming>> Was super excited for this and made the reservation for their winter tasting menu the moment it was announced. It was undeniable that they have really great service. Kudos to the team. But the food was nowhere near that. Best dishes: Lamb chop and Sesame oil duck noodles • These two dishes were the best out of everything they served, but it wasn’t mind blowing. To level set, the bar was really low for these 2 to make it to the top. The not so good: (nod to the fresh ingredients used) • Everything else on the menu. Missing flavors. The crudos were a huge disappointment. If you’re telling me that these ingredients were used, I expect to taste them. • The flavor profile for each item was flat and monotonous. It was very painful sitting thru the entire dinner (2.5+ hours) where you were served food that consistently fell short of expectations. • Look at the tofu pudding they served at the end. Maybe do 1 good dessert, instead of making 2. Overall: I think they shld focus on what they do best. Focus on quality and not quantity. I really appreciate their fusionizing attempt, but it was not good at all. Also, hot food were ser

My five star favorites for this spot starts with the quality of service! A friend recommended this place, she had the pleasure of trying their Harvest Moon Festival (Mid-Autumn) tasting menu … she had rave reviews for every item on that menu! I’ve included the menu photo for future reference. Having an intimate meal with great friends is a special experience that makes a good meal fantastic. I won’t list out everything we ordered, you can explore through the images provided. I’ve also shared photos of their menu. For me the dragon whiskers and the lobster stood out but I’m also a low-carb eater I can be bias 😋 High-five on the cocktails, it was fun to see a “Barton G” style vibe to some of their drinks like the popcorn 🍿 styled cocktail. Other drinks were reminiscent of childhood party punch where the punch bowl was a vibrant mix of 7-Up and sherbet ice cream 🥰 I cant say much about the cost since it was a special treat meal. I can say I am grateful for the awesome double date memories that I will always carry with me. 🫶 Thanks for the great service … the only thing we would change is the lighting. Softer lighting would add to the ambiance🤗 Lastly, we had leftovers. I loved the
